Elastin - A protein found in the layer of skin known as the dermis, which gives the skin its elasticity or ability to stretch.
Emollient - An oily substance that softens rough dry skin. These substances can be composed of mineral oils, fatty acid esters, cetyl stearyl alcohol.
Emu Oil - A natural tissue nutrient. The basis and benefits of emu oil are derived from essential fatty acids. It exhibits anti-inflammatory and significant wound healing qualities. It is used to treat burn victims, arthritis, muscle pain, and skin conditions such as psoriasis, eczema, and rosacea.
Enzyme - A protein that speeds the rate at which a chemical reaction occurs in a cell. An enzyme acts as a catalyst.
Epidermis - The outermost layer of skin, which is made up of squamous cells and basal cells.
Erythema - A redness or inflammation of the skin.
Erythrasma - A skin infection affecting the skin folds, which presents itself as a slowly enlarging area of pink or brown dry skin. It is often found in such areas as under the arms, between the toes, and in the groin area.
Erythrodermic Psoriasis - The least common but most severe form of psoriasis. It is characterized by extensive skin reddening and scaling. This painful inflammatory psoriasis often covers roughly eighty percent of the entire body.
Etretinate - A systemic derivative (retinoid) of vitamin A used in the treatment of severe cases of psoriasis.
Excisional Biopsy - The surgical removal of an entire skin lesion along with a portion of the surrounding tissue.
Excoriation - A linear break in the skins surface caused by extensive scratching. The area will often be covered with blood or a crust.
Extracorporeal Photophoresis - The process of circulating white blood cells outside of the body, exposing them to photoactivated 8-methoxypsoralen and ultraviolet light, and returning them back into the body.
