Leaky Gut Syndrome - The intestinal disorder in which metabolic and microbial toxins of the small intestines flood into the blood stream. The leakage disrupts the function of the liver, the lymphatic system, and the immune response including the endocrine system. Eventually, leaky gut syndrome can contribute to the development of food allergies, asthma, chronic sinusitis, irritable bowel, and fungal disorders. It can also be the source of psoriasis, migraines, eczema, and inflammatory joint disorders including rheumatoid arthritis.

Lesion - A visible area of injured, damaged, or diseased tissue. A lesion could also mean a tumor, scar, sore, mole, blister or scab.

Leucine - An essential amino acid that must be acquired from dietary sources. Leucine lowers high blood sugar levels, stimulates protein synthesis in muscles, and promotes the healing of skin, bones and muscles.

Lichenification - Skin that has thickened due to excessive rubbing or scratching of an area. The skin takes on a dry leathery appearance, with normal lines of the skin being more pronounced than usual.

Lotion - A dermatological vehicle for liquid preparations having either a soothing, antiseptic, or medicinal action when applied to the skins surface.

Lupus Erythematosus - An autoimmune disease in which the bodys immune system is directed against the bodys own tissues creating a variety of skin lesions.
