Panthenol - Also known as vitamin B5. It conditions the hair and is necessary for healthy tissues.

Papule - A small elevated skin lesion often seen in skin disorders such as acne, rosacea, and many forms of dermatitis.

Patch - A small, lesion on the surface of the skin. They usually have a flat or scaly appearance and are often seen in skin conditions such as eczema or psoriasis.

Pathogen - A microorganism (virus, bacteria, or fungi) capable of causing disease in a living host.

Pharmacist - A licensed professional that is qualified to dispense drugs or medication legally. They have great knowledge in the use, composition, interactions, and side effects of medications.

Photoaging - Damage of the skin due to long term exposure to ultraviolet radiation. Skin often will take on a dry, rough, leathery, or deeply wrinkled appearance.

Photosensitivity - Extreme sensitivity to sunlight or ultraviolet light. Some cancer and light therapy drugs can produce this effect in people.

Phototherapy - The use of artificial or natural light in the treatment of skin disorders.

Plaque - An elevated, red patch (lesion) covered by silvery scales, which is formed on the skin due to psoriasis.

Predisposition - Having the increased tendency to develop a particular condition at some point in ones life. An inherited genetic predisposition makes it more likely that the condition will present itself due to the possession of certain genes.

Prescription - A physicians written order for the preparation and administration of medication to a patient, from a pharmacy.

Prognosis - A prediction of the duration and outcome of a disease based on medical research and the patients individual health history.

Proliferation - To increase in numbers or produce at a rapid rate.

Pruritus - An extreme itching sensation caused by an infection, allergy, or a skin condition.

Psoralen - A drug used to increase melanin in the skin. It is often used in combination with phototherapy.

Psoriasis - A chronic (long term) skin condition in which cells in the epidermal layer of skin are produced at an abnormally rapid rate. Psoriasis is characterized by inflamed, scaly, red, plaques on the body, scalp, and limbs.

Psoriasis Vulgaris - Psoriasis vulgaris (plaque psoriasis) is the most common form of the condition. It is characterized by having elevated red lesions covered by silvery scales.

Psoriatic Arthritis - A form of inflammatory arthritis that is found in about 10% of those with psoriasis.

Pus - A liquid build up of white blood cells and cellular debris in an infected area or tissue, which often has a viscous, yellowish-white appearance.

Pustular Psoriasis - This type of psoriasis is often found on the hands or feet. It may be localized on the body, or widespread.

Pustule - A small elevated bump on the surface of the skin filled with pus.

PUVA - A treatment that is reserved for severe cases of psoriasis and some other skin conditions. It combines the oral or topical administration of a drug called psoralen with ultraviolet light.
